Looking for a solid half-day fishing trip that actually puts fish in the boat? Captain Tony and the crew at In Too Deep Charters know exactly where the red snapper stack up around Gulf Shores, and this 4-hour offshore run is designed to get you on them fast. Perfect for families wanting to introduce kids to offshore fishing or experienced anglers who need to be back on land by afternoon. We're talking real reef fishing here – not trolling around hoping for luck, but anchoring up on productive structure where the fish live.
This trip runs like clockwork. You'll meet at the dock, get a quick safety briefing, and head straight to the productive waters where red snapper and redfish hang around the natural and artificial reefs. Captain Tony's been working these waters long enough to know which spots produce, and he's not shy about moving if the fish aren't cooperating. The boat comes loaded with quality rods, reels, and all the bait you'll need – plus your fishing licenses are covered. At 6 guests max, you're not fighting for rail space or waiting forever for your turn to drop a line. Just remember the deckhand works purely for tips, so if they're busting their back baiting hooks and gaffing fish, take care of them.
We're talking classic Gulf bottom fishing here. You'll be dropping chicken rigs and knocker rigs loaded with squid, cigar minnows, or whatever's working that day. The reefs around Gulf Shores hold fish year-round, but the structure changes with storms and seasons, so local knowledge makes all the difference. Captain Tony uses his electronics to mark fish and position the boat perfectly – sometimes you're fishing in 60 feet, sometimes pushing out to 80 or 90 feet depending on where the bite is. The technique is straightforward: drop to the bottom, reel up a couple cranks, and wait for that telltale snapper bite. When the fish are aggressive, it's almost nonstop action.
"Wonderful time! We booked this charter with our 83 year old Dad and his wife!!! Captain Tony put us right on the snapper!!! Highly recommend them to everyone!!" - Deanna
Red Snapper are the crown jewel of Gulf reef fishing, and for good reason. These pink and red beauties average 3-8 pounds around Gulf Shores, though bigger ones lurk deeper. They're smart fish – snapper can be picky about bait presentation and will often mouth a bait before committing. But when they bite, there's no mistaking it. Red snapper season typically runs from June through July, making this trip perfectly timed for peak action. What makes them so special? The fight is solid but not crazy, they're gorgeous fish for photos, and they're absolutely delicious on the table. Kids especially love the bright colors and the satisfaction of pulling up these reef dwellers.
Redfish might surprise you this far offshore, but Gulf Shores sits right where the inshore waters blend with offshore structure, creating perfect redfish habitat. These copper-colored bulldogs average 20-30 inches and fight like they're twice their size. Unlike their inshore cousins that cruise shallow flats, offshore reds often school up around the same reefs where you're catching snapper. They're year-round residents, but fall months can be particularly productive as they stage for their spawning runs. The distinctive black spot near the tail and that bronze coloration make them easy to identify, and their drag-screaming runs provide some of the best action you'll get on this type of trip.
Sea Trout round out your target species list, and while they might not have the reputation of snapper or the power of redfish, they're scrappy fighters that often save the day when other fish aren't cooperating. Gulf Shores trout can push 20+ inches, and the bigger ones have beautiful coloration with distinct spots along their sides. They're more active in cooler months, making them a reliable backup species when conditions aren't perfect for the reef bite. Trout also school heavily, so when you find them, you often find a bunch. They're excellent eating and perfect for anglers who want consistent action throughout the trip.
Here's the deal – half-day trips like this book up fast, especially during red snapper season. Captain Tony's reputation for finding fish consistently means repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals keep the calendar full. Four hours gives you enough time to hit multiple spots if needed, but it's short enough that even kids stay engaged the whole trip. The fact that everything's included except your lunch means you just show up ready to fish. Whether you're a Gulf Shores local looking for a quick offshore fix or visiting from out of town with limited time, this trip delivers the goods without eating your whole day. Don't sleep on it – book now and get ready to see why Gulf Shores offshore fishing keeps people coming back year after year.

These bright red beauties are what offshore dreams are made of. Most snapper we pull up run 16-24 inches, but the big boys can hit 30+ inches and really test your drag. They live on hard bottom and structure in 60-120 feet of water, hugging wrecks, reefs, and rock piles. Summer is prime time during our season, and they bite best on strong current days. What makes them special is that incredible fight - they'll head straight for the bottom and try to cut you off on anything sharp down there. The meat is absolutely top-shelf too, with that sweet, nutty flavor that makes them restaurant favorites. Pro tip: use circle hooks with fresh cut bait and keep steady pressure when they run - let them tire themselves out instead of horsing them up too fast.

These copper-colored bruisers are easy to spot with their distinctive black eyespot near the tail. Most reds we catch run 20-35 inches and fight like they're twice that size. They love shallow water around oyster bars, grass flats, and structure - sometimes so shallow their backs are showing. You'll find them year-round here, but fall and spring are prime time when they school up and feed heavy. What guests love most is watching these fish absolutely crush topwater lures in skinny water - it's pure adrenaline. Plus, they're excellent table fare with mild, flaky white meat. My go-to trick is throwing a gold spoon right past them and working it back slow - the flash drives them crazy and they'll usually nail it on the first or second cast.

Also called speckled trout, these silvery fish with black spots run 14-24 inches and typically weigh 1-5 pounds around Gulf Shores. They love shallow grass flats and hang near structure during the day, but the real action happens at night when they move into 2-4 feet of water to feed on shrimp and small baitfish. Spring through fall offers the best fishing, especially during moving tides. What makes them special is their delicate white meat that flakes perfectly when cooked right - just don't overdo it or it gets mushy. They're scrappy fighters that'll give you some good runs. Here's a local trick: use a popping cork with live shrimp about 18 inches below it and work it slow over the grass beds right at dawn or dusk.
